Q: What is Cepheid Variable?
A: Established in 1969, Cepheid Variable is “a Texas A&M Student Organization devoted to the support and promotion of all things science fiction, fantasy, horror, science, and technology, and the support of the community that grows around them through an atmosphere of acceptance and kinship.”
Q: What do you people do?
A: We do a plethora of things! Our most well known is our annual convention called “AggieCon.” Basically, we are a group of people who love all things nerdy and geeky, from comics to video games to board games and cult movies and more. We have several small programs on campus dedicated to every facet of geeky and nerdy.
Q: What is AggieCon?
A: I’m glad you asked! AggieCon is the annual convention put on by members of Cepheid Variable. Held not too far from A&M Campus, we have hosted fascinating guests ranging from Aaron Dismuke, to Jeffery Cranor to George R.R. Martin himself (No con-goers were inexplicably killed off during the extent of his visit)! The con is open to everyone and is a weekend chance to meet other people in your fandom, attend panels such as “How to survive the Zombie Apocalypse” and “What you need to know to be a Hunter.” Members of the club put on the Rocky Horror Picture show unlike any you’ve seen before. There is a dealers room where you can shop from the plethora of fantastic craftsmen and women there as well as an art room showcasing the talent of many artists. All in all, it’s just a great atmosphere and time to go and have fun with friends and meet new people like yourself!
Q: How long has AggieCon been a thing?
A: This will be our 50th annual convention!
Q: Do we have to cosplay to attend this convention?
A: Absolutely not! Though we won’t stop you from rocking that Iron Man outfit you’ve been working on for months! We’d love to see your creativity on our con floor!
Q: Is there an age restriction at this convention?
A: Some things like Rocky as well as a couple of panels are age restricted, but the general convention is open to all ages!
